KtalystKeystone
India’s solar ambitions are shining bright—500GW by 2030—but the waste trail is casting long shadows. Here’s your crisp, data-backed reality check:
⚙️ NationalMoves
🧾 UnionBudget2025
Introduced India’s first SolarWasteRecyclingPolicy, integrating PV modules under the EWasteRules2022.
ProjectedWaste: 600 kilotonnes by 2030
Missing: Clear recycling targets and financial incentives
🔬 Attero x NISE Collaboration
Piloting Solar and LiIonBatteryRecycling
Scaling a dedicated ResearchFacility
Forecasted waste by 2030: 340KT
🏭 MakeInIndiaDeadline
From June2026, only IndiaMadePVCELLS allowed in government solar procurement
Supports StandardizedRecycling
♻️ StateLevelSpotlight
📍 Gujarat’s GEDAStudy (May 2025)
Targets formal norms for PVWasteRecovery
EstimatedWaste: 11,528 tonnes by 2030
Focus: CdTe, Silicon, Silver, Copper recovery
☀️ UP’s AgraSolarWastePlant
India’s first SolarPoweredWasteFacility
Capacity: 65 TPD MRF + 30 TPD compost
Backed by CSRFunds and run by WomensSHGs
📊 IndustryAndResearchTrends
🧠 CEEWReport2025
5 states—Gujarat, Karnataka, TamilNadu, Rajasthan, AndhraPradesh—will generate 67Percent of India’s PV waste
Recommends: SeparatePVRules, DemandAggregation, LandfillPenalties
⚠️ PrivateSectorGaps
Firms like FusionSprintRecycler emerging
But 90Percent of PV waste still processed Informally, risking toxic exposure
❗ ChallengesAhead
🧯 RegulatoryGaps
Current rules allow storage till 2035 but lack RecyclingMandates
🛑 InfrastructureDeficit
RecyclingCapacity inadequate
India may face 19MillionTonnes of PV waste by 2050
KtalystTakeaway
India’s energy transition is NonNegotiable—but so is WasteResponsibility. To avoid a LandfillLegacy:
Define PVRecyclingTargets
Fund ReverseLogisticsSystems
Scale CertifiedRecyclers
Penalize UnsafeDismantling

NamasteIndia Ayana Sale
Ayana Renewable Power is advancing JSW Neo Energy and Oil & Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) to the final round of bidding.
The revised offers value Ayana between $1.6 billion and $1.8 billion, including both debt and liquid assets.
Ayana_Renewable_Power has a significant portfolio with over 4 GW of solar, wind, and hybrid power projects across several states in India.
This move is part of a broader trend towards increasing investments in renewable energy.
JSW Neo Energy & ONGC are the final contenders in the race to acquire Ayana Renewable Power.
Initially, five_companies submitted non-binding offers for Ayana, including Sembcorp, Macquarie, Masdar, and Sekura Energy.
Sembcorp & Macquarie were also shortlisted but their bids were deemed uncompetitive.
Ayana’s assets include an operational capacity of 1.3 GW of renewable energy in AndhraPradesh, Karnataka, and Rajasthan, and an additional 3 GW of projects under construction, including solar, wind, hybrid, and round-the-clock assets.
Long-term power purchase agreements at fixed tariffs ensure revenue stability.
Ayana is being sold to raise up to $800 million, which will be used to fund the company’s expansion plans.
The sale involves a majority stake in Ayana Renewable Power.
The National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) is the dominant shareholder in Ayana with a 51% stake, British_International Investment holds 32%, and Eversource_Capital holds 17%.
