๐Ÿš› “How_Green_Are_Global_Supply_Chains? Numbers_Donโ€™t Lie!” ๐ŸŒโ™ป๏ธ

Supply chains are critical for global trade but also massive polluters. With 11% of worldwide COโ‚‚ emissions coming from logistics, are supply chains truly sustainable, or just corporate greenwashing?

๐Ÿ“Š The Global State of Green Supply Chains

๐Ÿšจ Only 52% of companies in major industries (food, textile, wood products) use sustainable sourcing. (PNAS, 2024)
๐Ÿšจ 60.5% of companies apply sustainability only to first-tier suppliers, ignoring deeper supply chain impact. (PNAS, 2024)
๐Ÿšจ #$44 trillion in global GDP is directly dependent on nature and ecosystem services. (World Economic Forum, 2024)
๐Ÿšจ Private businesses contribute 70% of GDP in OECD countries, making their supply chains critical for sustainability. (OECD, 2024)

๐Ÿ“Œ Reality Check: Most โ€œgreenโ€ supply chains cover surface-level sustainability, missing deeper impact areas.

๐Ÿ›‘ Where Are Supply Chains Falling Short?

๐Ÿ”ด Carbon-Intensive Transport โ€“ 90% of global trade still runs on fossil-fueled shipping & trucking.
๐Ÿ”ด Plastic Waste & Packaging โ€“ 140M tons of plastic waste come from logistics annually. (UNEP, 2024)
๐Ÿ”ด Overproduction & Inefficiency โ€“ 40% of global goods never reach consumers due to supply chain waste. (McKinsey, 2024)

๐Ÿšจ Reality Check: Sustainability is still an afterthought for most global supply chains.

๐Ÿš€ Whatโ€™s Moving Supply Chains Towards Sustainability?

โœ… EV & Hydrogen Trucks โ€“ Amazon, UPS, & Maersk investing in low-carbon fleets.
โœ… Smart Routing & AI Logistics โ€“ AI-powered optimization cuts fuel waste by 20%. (McKinsey, 2024)
โœ… Sustainable Packaging โ€“ IKEA & Unilever eliminating single-use plastics.
โœ… Nearshoring & Circular Supply Chains โ€“ 52% of businesses shifting sourcing closer to home. (Gartner, 2024)

๐Ÿ“Œ Reality Check: Green supply chains are possibleโ€”but only with deeper accountability.

๐Ÿ† KeyTakeaway

Supply chains could be green with genuine commitments, should be integrated with circular economies, but would be just another ESG illusion if companies donโ€™t track deeper impacts.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Are global supply chains truly green or just scratching the surface?

NamasteIndia.. SAADHA PUNJAB Punjab’s state-run power plants using biomass pellets:

Biomass Utilization: Punjab’s power plants are incorporating biomass pellets made from paddy straw as a fuel source.
CropResidue Reduction: Blending biomasspellets with coal helps reduce crop residue burning and air pollution.
PurchaseOrders: PSPCL has ordered 6,000 metric tonnes of straw pellets, with more procurement planned.
Specific Plants: Ropar and Lehra Mohabbat units will receive significant quantities of pellets.
Cost Considerations: Although slightly costlier than coal, the focus is on curbing stubble burning.
Private Plants: Private thermal power plants in Punjab are also adopting straw pellets .
