NamasteIndia’s Larsen & Toubro
Monster order target, echoes from India’s roaring infra, energy sectors.
India’s largest engineering and construction firm, is making significant strides in the clean energy space. Here are some key highlights:
Floating Solar Plants: L&T’s Power Transmission & Distribution (PT&D) business has secured orders to establish two Floating Solar Plants in India. These projects involve mounting solar modules on structures that float in water bodies (such as reservoirs or lakes). Compared to ground-mounted solar plants, floating solar plants don’t require land acquisition and involve less civil work. The cumulative floating solar capacity is over 150 MWac, in addition to a ground-mounted Solar PV capacity of 120 MWac1.
Transmission Lines and Substations: L&T PT&D has also received orders to establish 765 kV Transmission Lines and a Gas Insulated Substation in Rajasthan and Karnataka. These crucial links will enable the evacuation of renewable energy to load centers across the country.
Additionally, L&T will build a 400kV Gas Insulated Substation in Kuwait, powering residential clusters in South Sabah Al-Ahmad City.
In Oman, they’re integrating standalone electricity networks into a 400 kV national grid, including a new overhead transmission line and two grid stations.
The business has also secured orders for constructing two 132 kV Substations in the United Arab Emirates.
Order Book Projection: L&T projects its order book size to swell to INR 9 trillion by the end of this fiscal year, up from ₹4.9 trillion at the end of Q1. This growth is fueled by a robust pipeline of large projects, reflecting the rising activity in India’s infrastructure and energy sectors.
L&T’s contributions to clean energy and infrastructure development are commendable, and their strategic initiatives play a pivotal role in shaping India’s sustainable future.
