KtalystInsights™: Whatever May Start Inflation, 7PointPricingPower Decides Who Pays
Dr. Anju Sharma MrsSustainability
Inflation is often introduced to the public like an unavoidable storm.
War erupts. Oil climbs. Freight tightens. Currencies shiver. Supply chains fray.
And then comes the familiar line:
Prices are up. Nothing can be done.
Inflation is not only a storm.
It is also a silent auction of pain.
The spark may come from geopolitics, but the burn is shaped later in contracts, pricing decisions, and balance sheets. Why is it that two seemingly opposite truths can coexist: growth slows, households strain, & yet some corporate profits remain surprisingly resilient? The OECD now projects global growth at 2.9% in 2026, warning that the evolving Middle East conflict is raising energy costs and weakening demand.
Inflation may begin with the visible trigger
✓ war
✓ energy shock
✓ freight disruption
✓ commodity spike
✓ currency weakness
✓ policy delay
These are the flames everyone can see. But the ECB’s March 2026 projections show the deeper transmission clearly: euro area headline inflation is now projected at 2.6% in 2026, revised upward because energy prices are higher owing to the war in the Middle East.
2. InvisibleCorridors The real spread happens
Between the oil field & the invoice, inflation changes costume. It enters freight bills, insurance premia, input costs, and retail pricing. In NamasteIndia, Moody’s warned this week that prolonged energy disruption could widen the trade deficit, strain the fiscal account, & entrench inflation; oil prices had risen 31% since the conflict began on 28 February 2026.
3. Where economics becomes power
Not every firm can absorb a shock.
Not every firm needs to.
Not every price rise is equally innocent.
Some companies face genuine cost pressure. Others operate with enough brand strength, scarcity value, or market power to pass the burden forward. The ECB has noted that unit profits made a visible contribution to domestic price pressures during the recent inflation surge, while later ECB analysis said profits were also partially buffering inflation in some sectors. That is the oxymoron at the heart of modern inflation: profitable pressure.
4. Public experiences inflation one way. The Business experiences it another.
The household:
✓ higher fuel
✓ higher food
✓ higher transport
✓ higher EMIs
✓ thinner savings
The Business:
✓ absorb
✓ defer
✓ pass through
✓ reprice
✓ protect margin
That is why inflation can feel like a public emergency & a private opportunity at the same time.
KtalystBottomLine
Whatever may start inflation, its final shape is decided by who has the power to transfer cost, who is forced to absorb it, and who quietly turns disruption into spread.
Inflation may begin with disruption. Public pain begins when pricing power passes it on.” Dr. Anju Sharma

KtalystESGDiaries: Europe Retuning ESG Investments?
Dr. Anju Sharma•MrsSustainability
For years, companies were being judged by people most boards could not even properly name.
MSCI Sustainalytics ISS S&P Moody’s Refinitiv Bloomberg. CDP EcoVadis.
Not regulators.
Not auditors.
Not stock exchanges.
Yet their ESG scores could shape:
✓ investor appetite
✓ lender comfort
✓ supplier confidence
✓ portfolio inclusion
✓ corporate reputation
That is exactly why Europe has stepped in, because once a score starts influencing money, the person giving the score is no longer just “an opinion provider.” They become the financialinfluencers. EU has finally said, fine the scorers must also face scrutiny.
The EU ESG Ratings Regulation entered into force on 1 January 2025 and starts applying from 2 July 2026, when ESMA begins supervising ESG rating providers operating in the Union. Existing providers face a key ESMA notification deadline of 2 August 2026, while some small providers get until 2 November 2026.
1. So who are these raters, really?
They are the firms whose ESG opinions sit behind thousands of dashboards, funds, screens, and risk filters.
ESMA’s own evidence-gathering found the names most often cited in the market were MSCI, Morningstar/Sustainalytics, ISS, S&P, Moody’s/Vigeo Eiris, Refinitiv, RepRisk, CDP, and Bloomberg.
2. Why is Europe regulating them?
Because the market got uncomfortable with one awkward reality:
Scores were influencing capital, but the machinery behind them often stayed fuzzy.
Different providers could rate the same company very differently. ESMA has highlighted both the market relevance of ESG ratings and the divergence across providers.
3. What is the regulation really targeting?
Not disagreement.
Opacity.
The new regime is about transparency, governance, conflicts of interest, and methodological clarity. Europe is not ordering every rater to think alike. It is saying they cannot operate like black boxes while shaping financial decisions.
4. Why should companies care?
This is not “just a rating agency issue.
It will flow into:
✓ investor due diligence
✓ asset manager vendor reviews
✓ sustainability data discipline
✓ boardroom response quality
✓ trade and financing conversations
A glossy ESG deck may impress LinkedIn.
It will not survive a system that starts asking:
Who scored you, how, and on what logic?
5. What changed in one sentence?
The ESG market is moving from:
What score did you get?
to
Why should anyone trust the people scoring you?
KtalystKlue™
Markets can tolerate disagreement.
They get nervous when influence hides behind methodology fog.
KtalystBottomLine
Europe has not declared war on ESG ratings.
It has declared war on unexamined influence.
And honestly, about time.

💵 GreenLove | 🥇 Goldfishing | ₿ BitsCoinPhishing?
Dr. Anju Sharma | MrsSustainability | KtalystInsights™
Markets don’t think in crises. They react.
With gold pricing behaving like a goldfish’s memory forgetting yesterday’s highs the moment liquidity knocks, with cryptocurrencies shaken off charts like a phishing attack leverage hooked, margins pulled, screens flashing red, &with green dollar bills emerging as the TrumpCard in the GlobalGamble being played……it’s easy to think something broke.
Nothing broke.
Liquidity simply took over the table.
Before decoding the moves, one grounding truth.
Sustainability ratings — whether from Sustainalytics, Moody’s, or Fitch are built to measure long-term resilience, not to cushion short-term cash panics.
✓ Sustainalytics measures unmanaged ESG risk (lower score = lower risk)
✓ Moody’s ESG scores assess quality of risk management (0–100)
✓ Fitch ESG relevance scores show when ESG affects credit ratings (1–5)
✗ None are designed to absorb margin calls
✗ None stop forced selling when cash is scarce
That context matters because the last few weeks were not a fundamentals test.
They were a liquiditytest.
How the sequence actually unfolded
1️⃣ 💵 GreenLove the greenback becomes the Trump card
When markets panic, capital stops optimising for ideals and starts optimising for survival.
✓ USD strengthened
✓ US 10-year yields stayed elevated at ~4%+
✓ Cash + yield became the safest short-term parking
✗ ESG and diversification narratives paused
This is why everything else moved together.
2️⃣ 🥇 Goldfishing memory resets, liquidity first Gold didn’t forget its role.
Markets did temporarily.
✓ Gold corrected ~3–5% from recent highs
✓ Profit-taking followed a strong run
✓ High liquidity made gold an easy funding source
✗ This was not a rejection of gold as a hedge
Gold often dips before it protects.
That’s sequencing, not failure.
3️⃣ ₿ Bits-phishing leverage gets hooked and yanked Crypto didn’t lose belief.
It lost margin.
✓ ₿ Bitcoin slipped below ~$70k
✓ >$1B in leveraged crypto positions liquidated
✓ Funding rates flipped negative → forced selling cascades
✗ Price action ≠ thesis collapse
This wasn’t sentiment.
It was market plumbing.
Where sustainabilityratings re-enter the story
Once forced selling slows and cash pressure eases:
✓ Assets with stronger governance stabilise faster
✓ Transition risk matters again
✓ ESG scores regain relevance in relative performance, not headlines
KtalystKlue
> Sustainability manages structural risk.
Liquidity exposes immediate truth.
Confusing the two leads to noisy conclusions.
Markets didn’t abandon sustainability.
They simply played the cash card first.
